On Tuesday, March 12th John Dorsey pulled off one of the biggest trades in Cleveland Browns history. Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon to the Cleveland Browns for the 17th overall draft pick, the 95th overall draft pick, Jabrill Peppers and Kevin Zeitler.
John Dorsey has proven that he knows how to draft as well. While in Kansas City he drafted Patrick Mahomes in the 2nd round, Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce in the 3rd round and Tyreek Hill in the 5th round. As we all know, the Kansas City Chiefs are now a force to be reckoned with and John Dorsey is to thank for that.
As far as his time in Cleveland, A year and a half ago the Cleveland Browns were coming off of an 0-16 season and John Dorsey was hired as Browns GM in December. John Dorsey’s first draft for the Cleveland Browns was highlighted by Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward, Austin Corbett, Antonio Callaway, Nick Chubb, Genard Avery, and Chad Thomas. Most of those players were home run’s in their first season in Cleveland.
In the 2018 offseason, John Dorsey also traded for Jarvis Landry, Tyrod Taylor, and Damarious Randall. In those trades, he only gave up Deshone Kizer, a 3rd round pick, a 4th round pick, and a 7th round pick. Can someone go to Berea, Ohio and arrest John Dorsey for a highway robbery?
So when it comes down to it John Dorsey has drafted Cleveland’s QB of the future, which seemed like an impossible task, and brought two best friends back (Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry) together in Cleveland. John Dorsey has also given the Browns the quickest turn around in NFL history. 2 seasons ago the Browns were one of the worst teams in NFL History and now they look to have one of the deadliest offenses in the entire league.
At this moment in time, I personally believe that John Dorsey is one of, if not, the best executive the Browns have ever had. He has drafted well, made smart trades and helped turn the franchise in a complete 360 degrees. That being said, if John Dorsey builds a team that will lead the Browns to their first ever Super Bowl, I believe he will be looked at as one of the greatest NFL executives ever.
The Browns have not won anything in a very long time so an AFC North Title would be amazing for the City of Cleveland, let alone a Super Bowl. I know, I know, we’re not building John Dorsey a statue yet, but believe me, we’re not far from it.
