To celebrate mental health, I want to talk about good mental health. How can we have it and maintain it.  Mental health refers to your overall psychological well-being. It encompasses the way you feel about yourself, the quality of your relationships, and your ability to manage your feelings and deal with difficulties. Strong mental health isn’t just the absence of mental health problems. Being mentally or emotionally healthy is much more than being free of depression, anxiety, or other psychological issues. Rather than the absence of mental illness, mental health refers to the presence of positive characteristics. Positive characteristics of mental and emotional health allow you to participate in life to the fullest extent possible through productive, meaningful activities and strong relationships.  It is important to a have a social life which includes face-to-face time with others. A Few tips are call a friend, get out the house, join a group that is doing something positive, smile more and speaking to strangers does not make you weird.There are ways to relieve stress such as having a healthy diet.   There are foods that boost your mood such as fatty fish with Omega-3, nuts, flaxseed, leafy greens, and fresh fruit. Getting enough sleep is also important for good mental health; the recommended amount is 7-9 hours daily. There are many ways to promote good mental health which should be explored be each person individually to use the strategies that works for each person.
