Singer – songwriter Kelly Clarkson recently revealed that she had to undergo an emergency appendectomy on Thursday morning after hosting the Billboard Music Awards the night before. Clarkson explained on Twitter that she “broke down in tears” from pain after hosting the show that evening after someone had pointed out that “The Voice” coach had “been suffering from [an] appendicitis all week.”
While fans were very concerned for the “American Idol” winner, she managed to power through her hosting gig at the Billboard Music Awards and even shocked a fan with her perseverance.
Now, you may be wondering– how did she pull of such a performance and multiple wardrobe changes while dealing with something so painful? According to PEOPLE magazine, “Producers and sources who were there say it was a Herculean feat… Hosting an awards show is not an easy gig. For Kelly to pull it off– especially her incredible opening number– while in pain and knowing she was having surgery the next morning makes her an even bigger rockstar,” says Mark Bracco, Executive Producer of the Billboard Music Awards and Executive Vice President of Programming and Development for Dick Clark Productions. “She is truly the best”, he adds.”
Clarkson opened the Billboard Music Awards with a medley of songs that were nominated at this year’s show, which include Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” Marren Morris and Zedd’s “The Middle,” Cardi B, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin’s hit “I Like It” and more. In conclusion to her performance from early on in the night, she performed her latest hit “Broken & Beautiful” while managing to switch from a black gown into a one -shoulder pink dress with a belt around her waist.
