In an unprecedented move, the NBA will have their entire All Star weekend festivities packed into a one night only event. Team LeBron will face off against Team Durant in the 70th NBA All Star Game at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Sunday night at 8:00 PM ET on TNT. Lebron will headline his 17th All Star game of his career, Kevin Durant will not play due to injury. Though Durant will not play, his team will be led by his Brooklyn Net running mates Kyrie Irving and James Harden. LeBron James will have the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, among others.
The night will kick off at 6:30 PM ET with the Skills contest, which has been the most fun to watch in recent years will feature Mavericks star, Luka Doncic and Suns star Point Guard, Chris Paul. That event will be followed by the 3-point contest which is stacked with the household names. The forecast will call for rain with the likes of Steph Curry, Donovan Mitchell, and Jayson Tatum. The Slam Dunk contest, an event that continues to struggle and lose fan interest will feature rookie sensation, Obi Toppin of the New York Knicks, Cassius Stanley of the Indiana Pacers and Anfernee Simons. The Slam Dunk contest has struggled to draw interest of big-name participants, and this season was no different with guys like Zion Williamson saying no.
Last year the NBA struck gold with this new format of players being selected by team Captians vs the traditional East vs West format. It made the game more interesting and more competitve. Let us hope for more of the same this time around.
